The road to Marble is maintained even in the winter. Continue east from Marble as the road steepens. Turn right at the fork a mile or two past Marble. Follow the shelf road along the Crystal River 4 miles further, to the townsite of Crystal. Park just east of Crystal, or continue on the 4WD road for another 2 miles to the Lead King Basin trailhead.

6 years ago my wife and I took a jeep tour from Marble to the Crystal Mill. The jeep tour was fun and our driver gave me about an hour to shoot the mill, but still, we were on his time schedule and not ours. So if I were to go there again I'd rent an ATV, also available in the town of Marble (or at least it was in 2011), and drive that to the mill.
